COUNCILLOR GRAHAM SCOBIE: VISION AND VOICE

I am currently an elected Councillor and will be a candidate in the two separate ballots for Mayor and Council in the Eurobodalla Shire Council Election on Saturday, 8 Sep 2012. I was previously elected on Saturday, 13 Sep 2008.

I support the Eurobodalla2030 Community Strategic Plan which was passed by Council on Tuesday, 24 Apr 2012. This document, which can be found at www.eurobodalla2030.com.au , in local libraries or at the Council office in Moruya, sets out an overall vision for the Shire until 2030 following input by over 3,000 residents and ratepayers.

In addition, I also add the following comments from my own Vision:

  1. Council has a role to play in the health of our community and we support the direction of Councilís Community and Corporate Outcomes department.
  2. I acknowledge that Council is here to serve the community.
  3. I seek to make Eurobodalla an affordable place for residents to live.
  4. I note the importance of the environment in our health, economy and quality of life.
  5. I seek an appropriate zoning for every property in the Eurobodalla.
  6. I seek to work towards generating more energy locally from renewable sources.
  7. I note the unemployment level in the Eurobodalla is twice the national average and seek to assist all Shire residents who wish to work, to gain meaningful employment.
  8. I offer to provide leadership of Council that is responsive to the residents and ratepayers of the Shire.
  9. I am aware of the backlog in maintaining Councilís $1.2 billion infrastructure assets and would build on my good working relationships with both local members to seek Federal and State Government support in meeting this backlog.

The Eurobodalla Shire is one of the most desirable locations to live in Australia. During 2012 our population will likely top 40,000 and each weekend and holiday we welcome up to double that number. Our current resources are stretched and I seek the efficient use of those resources to balance all the above to the benefit of all residents and visitors.

I believe I have the vision to help move the Eurobodalla in the direction preferred by a majority of residents and ratepayers, and the voice to put that vision into action. I seek your support at the local government election on Saturday, 8 Sep 2012 and I seek your support as Mayor of the Eurobodalla.
